Universita degli Studi di Milano: Interni Legacy –
Colour One: Mini by Scholten and Baijings. BMW presented the
installation Colour One for MINI by Scholten and Baijings. This work by the
internationally renowned Dutch design duo explored the design of a MINI One by
examining its composition down to the smallest details and, in so doing,
dissecting the design process per se.
The upshot was a thought provoking and inspiring new interpretation that
draws on the familiar stylistic devices of Scholten and Baijings, color and
material, to query the rules of automotive design and shed new light on them.
Stefan
Scholten and Carole Baijings with BMW’s Senior Vice President Adrian van
Hooydonk.
Color One: Mini by Scholten and Baijings. Fascinated
by the principle of concept cars, Stefan Scholten and Carole Baijings set about
deconstructing the MINI One. As MINI’s base model, the MINI One inherently and recognizably
embodies all the hallmark attributes of the brand, thus presenting itself as
the ideal vehicle for tackling fundamental issues concerning all aspects of
MINI design.

Universita degli Studi di
Milano: Interni Legacy. Photosynthesis design
by Akihisa Hirata with Panasonic. “Based on the dynamic of photosynthesis, I envisioned
the leaves, fruit and flowers of a tree linking the entire corridor space in a
cyclical network of creating, storing and saving energy. A new image of human endeavour
open to the limitless energy of the sun, to the energy channels we have built
and to the cycles of the biosphere. I
wanted to shape a new interpretation of nature at this historic juncture”
Akihisa Hirata.

Universita degli Studi di
Milano: Interni Legacy. Architect’s Eye design by Speech Tchoban and
Kuznetsov with Taltos. An artificial steel eye that
reflects the architecture around it and reproduces the reactions of the pupil,
transmitting sensations of surprise, fear and shock for monument-symbols of architecture
threatened with destruction.
