Czech Glass - Quo Vadis?!

The first edition of the Fondazione di Venezia Prize, was awarded to the exhibition Czech Glass, Quo Vadis?!, organized at the GAD - Giudecca Art District - until October 3 - curated by Maria Galova. The show presents ten Czech artists of different ages and with different approach to glass: Jaroslav Rona - Vladimira Klumpar - Zdenek Lhotsky - Martin Janecky - Petr Stanicky - Klara Horackova - Luba Bakicova - Michal Macku - Michaela Spruzinova - Tomas Krejci. The motivations for the award include originality of the project presented as part of the festival - The Venice Glass Week - which admirably represents the contemporary Czech glassmaking world, with its scientific character.

"The exhibition has the ambition to draw attention to ten contemporary Czech authors who create from glass distinctive and full-blown works of art. The presented artists are diverse in terms of age and professional experience. My intention was to present a diverse mosaic of approaches to glass and to show how they intervene in other areas of art, to demonstrate the possibilities of its connection with non-traditional materials. My point of view was to capture enthusiasm of the authors to improve the field of studio glass art."

The jury of the Fondazione di Venezia Prize for The Venice Glass Week was composed of Jean Blanchaert - curator and member of the Scientific Committee of The Venice Glass Week - Giovanna Palandri - director of the Venetian Institute of Sciences, Letters and Arts , chairman of the Organization Committee of the festival - and - Paola Marini - member of the General Board of Fondazione di Venezia. The prize giving ceremony was held at Palazzo Franchetti and moderated by Venetian architect and author Francesco da Mosto.
