MILAN - RTW S/S 2008

Fondazione Arnaldo Pomodoro – Gianfranco Ferre. I think it would have been too emotional to hold the Gianfranco Ferre show in his headquarter without him. Therefore it was a very good choice to hold the Ferre Spring/Summer collection in the Fondazione Arnaldo Pomodoro. As the Maestro said “Pomodoro and Ferre look good together.” And, I heartily agree.

Quiz: Who are these three reflected on the runway, sitting in the front row at the Gianfranco Ferre show held at the Fondazione Arnaldo Pomodoro?

The Answer: Celebrity photographer, Mario Testino, French Vogue’s editor in chief, Carine Roitfeld and the renowned designer, Fabien Barron.

Detail. The jeweled encrusted sandals are reflected on the runway.

The Celebrities. Actress, Randy Ingerman talks with British pop star and musician, Skin who has come to support Giannfranco Ferre’s head designer, Liborio Capizzi in his first solo collection. Skin often wears Gianfranco Ferre clothes on stage.

The Designers. Italian Vogue’s art critic, Mariuccia Casadio sits next to cult designer, Barnaba Fornasetti, as architect Stefano Giovannoni and his wife Elisa smile for my camera. Barnaba is showing The Fornasetti Rug Collection, by Roubini Rugs in New York City on October 18 at the New York Design Centre.

The Great Italian singer. Ornella Vanoni was exhausted from interviews related to the launch of her latest CD called Una Bellissima Ragazza or A Beautiful Girl.

The Family. The Fondazione Arnaldo Pomodoro museum is family run. The Maestro’s sister, Teresa Pomodoro chats with her daughter Carlotta Montebello. Carlotta jokingly told me, that she couldn’t get into her office without an invitation.

The Maestro. Arnaldo Pomodoro chats with documentary film maker, Adriana Sartogo. Pomodoro said that “I am happy to host an event that isn’t art related, in memory of an architect who decided not to pursue architecture but to design quality clothes.”

The Runway. The runway was created around sculptures and works of art by the Maestro, Arnaldo Pomodoro.

The Art. Fire-fighters enjoy the art at the Fondazione Arnaldo Pomodoro.

Fondazione Arnaldo Pomodoro – Backstage at Gianfranco Ferre. It’s always chaos backstage. The main activities revolve not only around waiting for hair and make-up, but above all, waiting for models, buyers and the press to arrive, due to the delays accumulated from the previous shows throughout the day.

Make-up. It’s going to be the natural look for S/S 2008. Make-up created by Silvana Belli.

Detail. Seen on a rack this beautiful “Viennese straw” inspired leather jacket.

Tattoos. The beautiful Russian model, Lia Kiise loves tattoos, yoga, sketching and writing in her diary.

Detail. Lia occupies her time at the shows not only writing in her diary, but also making pen and ink drawings.

The Hair Style. Two models are text messaging, while they wait to get their hair done.

Detail. It’s the wet look for the hot summer days of 2008 created by hair stylist, Roberto Paganini for the Gianfranco Ferre S/S 2008 collection.

The head designer and the model. Gianfranco Ferre’s head designer, Liborio Capizzi poses with his favorite model, Barbara Garcia. Barbara has been modeling for two years, she also loves to sing and play the guitar. Her favorite band is The Rolling Stones. Liborio says about her “She looks just like a Gianfranco Ferre sketch.”

Hanging out. Models are hanging out while they wait to be made-up and coiffed backstage at the Fondazione Arnaldo Pomodoro for the Gianfranco Ferre Fashion show. It was the first time in many, many years that the Ferre show was not held in their headquarters in Via Pontaccio.
