Milano: Prada Spring/Summer 2011.  The Prada Spring Summer 2011 collection was bright and happy. Stripes in DayGlo colors, Hawaiian cut shirts, tropical and banana prints evoking Harry Belafonte, Josephine Baker and the Caribbean, were accessorized with fox fur stoles in bright colors and stripes.

A detail.  Even the sandwiches were striped. They were conceived by food consultant, Corrado Calza and catered by AFM Banqueting.

Prada Spring/Summer 2011.  The Prada sundress in cool cotton was loose and sexy.

Prada Spring/Summer 2011 – the make-up and hair. The make-up has thick eyebrows with smudged sliver eye shadow and lips on a pale translucent skin.  The pomaded hair evokes the 1920’s and is twirled into two small buns at the back.

Prada Fall- Winter 2010/2011 collection - the grand finale.    The Prada collection for next winter was a re-visitation of classic clothes Miuccia Prada designed in the 1990’s.  The silhouette focused on the bust and the curves, a collection reminiscent of the 50’s and 60’s.

Prada.   Double cashmere cable knitwear in the bow belted sweater and flared skirt and lacy ruffles push-up the bust on the tweedy dress.

Note: the knee length thick socks, the knitted handbags and the pointed stilettos.

Accessories - a detail.   The make-up was very natural with bushy eyebrows and just pink lips.  The 60’s beehive is held in place by a cable knitted headband.

Prada.   The eveningwear is encrusted with jet bead embroidery and the skirt is made out of patent leather.

Note: the over the knee tweed socks with the precious coat.

Accessories - a detail.   The bags are either knitted leather in a tweed effect or in Patent leather.   The bow stiletto sandals are worn with thick wool over the knee socks.
Note:  socks are next winter’s foremost accessory.

Prada.  A scooped neck long sleeve 50’s style printed dress belted just above the gathered waist is very flattering.
Note: most of the belt and shoe accessories have thin patent bows on them.

MILANO FASHION: Where - When - Why - What - Who - Want ? ? ?

RUNWAY – the set.  An Italian palazzo façade was used as a backdrop down the middle of the runway.

PRADA RUNWAY.  Picture postcard holiday prints of palm trees and tropical islands are printed on the summer silks.

Note: the big beige canvas bag with leather trimmings.

PRADA RUNWAY- the shoes.   Not too high transparent plastic sandals with bows have crystals dangling from the heels.

PRADA RUNWAY. The criss-cross top falls into a trail at the back and short shorts are visible through the sheer fabric.

 

PRADA RUNWAY.  Like a suit of armor silver and crystal-embroidered tops reminiscent of the 1960’s are made of chandelier drop crystal components.

PRADA BACKSTAGE – the make-up and hair. The make-up appears natural with the exception of the day-glow orange lips. The hair is teased and swept to the side in ponytails.

FASHION FOOD AND FLOWERS

Fashion – Prada. Miuccia Prada always surprises us with her shows. See through lace was the theme for the Prada Autumn/Winter 2008/2009 Collection, but it was not used in the traditional sense of childhood, marriage or being a widow, but more in an austere sexual way. As Suzy Menkes wrote in the International Herald Tribune, the show was “…above all, inspiring and intensely Prada in a mix of the prim and the perverse.”

Mario’s favorite restaurant in Milano. “I would love to open a chain of Maria and Arturo’s La Latteria di San Marco restaurant’s all over the world. “ he said. Whilst, Carine, stated “I don’t have time to eat in Milan.”

The international stylist. Mick Jagger’s girlfriend, international stylist, L’Wren Scott. She designed the 1,399-carat diamond necklace that Nicole Kidman wore to the Oscar’s.

Food - nibbles. Prada always serves some delicious nibbles with champagne backstage after the second show. Above, some Cacciacavallo cheese and pea mini sandwiches served on a slick Alessi black tray. It is food consultant and caterer, Corrado Calza who looks after all the Prada refreshments. He also consults with Gucci and Burberry.

MILAN - RTW S/S 2008

Prada – The Space. The Prada loft space was transformed into three circles. The Video screens showed colored patterns, like action paintings, as the models walked the figure of eight runways. Art meets fashion. The slim silhouette, were most unusual and interesting in the collection. I also loved the use of lots and lots of slim pants with very long and slim cardigan like tops for daytime and the gold pieces mixed with double cotton tank tops for evening. All the new retro-ish inspired patterns from plaids, to checks, to flower prints were unexpected and fresh in the Prada Spring Summer collection.

Prada. I loved the gold gathered skirt with the cotton tank top, the patterned tights and funky shoes for the evening.

Prada – The Make-Up. The make-up was very bold on the eyes, smudgy , funky and wild.

Prada - Backstage. The line to go backstage to say hello to Miuccia Prada after the Prada show is always very long and you can easily wait in line for even twenty minutes. It was a surprise; therefore, that Andre Leon Talley came twice. Pictured above with Miuccia and with Michael Roberts, Andre kept saying “I love this and I loved that, I loved……….”
