Venezia – Bacino di San Marco – Vogliamo Venezia – We Want Venice

Venezia – Bacino di San Marco – Vogliamo Venezia – We Want Venice.  With the cancellation of Gianni Berengo Gardin's exhibition in the Doge’s Palace to denounce the damage done by the cruiseships in Venice, a large group of Venetians met on Saturday morning in front of the Doge’s Palace, each with their own photograph, of cruiseships, to signal their determination to regain control of the destiny of Venice.

Vogliamo Venezia – We Want Venice. It was not a demonstration, no flags or symbols, just a meeting of people from all different backgrounds, with their photos and their indignation. The initiative marks the launch of an appeal to all Venetians to submit their photos representing the cruiseship problem. The collection, with the title We Want Venice, will be sent to the UNESCO Commission for World Heritage Sites which is due to visit Venice before the end of the year.  The aim is to gain UNESCO’s support in highlighting the role of the city’s residents in choosing what future for Venice and the Lagoon.
