Treviso Day Three: Modesign/Fashion at IUAV 2014 – Auditorium, Santa Caterina Museum – Misa Symposium - Fashion in Libraries: Collecting Materials and Documenting Stories. For the first time in Italy, the symposium, Fashion in Libraries: Collecting Materials and Documenting Stories, promoted and organized by MISA Associazione Italiana degli Studi di Moda (Italian Association for Fashion Studies), dealt with the issue of fashion libraries. The symposium brought together librarians, academics and historians with the aim to share ideas, encourage interdisciplinary discussion and promote collaborative research.

Fashion in Libraries: Collecting Materials and Documenting Stories. The welcome note by Maria Luisa Frisa, president of MISA, director of the degree program in Fashion Design at the Università Iuav di Venezia. The first panel discussion focused on the theme, Fashion Libraries: best practice in the context of fashion museums, academic institutions and the fashion Industry.  It included keynotes by Dieter Suls, scientific librarian, MoMu Fashion Museum Antwerp; Adelheid Rasche, curator of Lipperheide Costume, Art Library, State Museums Berlin; Gloria Bianchino, lecturer and senior researcher, CSAC Parma University; Laura Lusuardi, fashion coordinator, Max Mara Group and Federica Fornaciari, curator of BAI Max Mara Company Archive and Library.

The Book. The cover of the book Haute Couture in Paris 1960-1968, published by the National Museums in Berlin with illustrations by Trude Rein, her illustrations were provided by the Lipperheide Costume Library, which hosts the world’s largest collection of graphic works on the history of clothing and fashion. The library’s curator, Adelheid Rasche, above, also contributed to the book.

Round Table: Addressing the Iconauts.  The second round-table, was moderated by Mario Lupano, full professor and library representative, IUAV University of Venice. It focused on the peculiarities of fashion libraries with respect to the materiality and immateriality of the publishing industry, on the one hand, and a new type of end user, on the other.
