Play.  Play chair designed by Philippe Starck for Dedon.  When Dedon first approached Philippe Starck, it wasn’t to design a furniture collection.  Instead, they invited him to help them to explore the future.  His response?  “I think the only style of tomorrow is freedom, freedom to choose what you need, what you want.”   A brand new concept in furniture, “A miracle,” as Starck describes it, the Play chair brings together state of the art technology with the age-old tradition of artisanal weaving, opening up new possibilities for people to interact, personalize and play with their furniture.  The first fruit of the Play concept is an injection-molded chair frame, with or without arms, its seat and back to be finished by the client in an array of combinations of teak, mirrored aluminum and/or hard-woven Dedon fiber.

Seen at Dedon – Design Entrepeneur.  Dedon was founded in 1990 by the former professional soccer player, Bobby Dekeyser, he revolutionized the outdoor furniture market with its designs within a few years.

Seen at Dedon – the installation.   The installation at Dedon was conceived by art director and set designer extraordinaire Simon Costin. The presentation was a multimedia extravaganza comprising films, sculpture, installation and an eye-popping diversity of the Play chairs and tables in the courtyard.  Above, each old television sets told a story where the chair was the star.
