To co-inside with the 50th anniversary of Save Venice a lecture was held in the Sala Canaletto of the St. Regis hotel to celebrate the English publication of Gianmaria Donà dalle Rose's book Seven Days in Venice - an artistic stroll in and out of hidden corners, alleyways, and wine bars - published by Settecolori. Gianmaria Donà dalle Rose comes from an ancient and aristocratic Venetian family that produced three Doges of La Serenissima, the Republic of Venice. Although Venetian by birth, he grew up in Milan, graduating from Bocconi University then specialising at Yale University. He is passionate about Venice and enjoys researching its history. His first book, L’Antipapa veneziano, vita del doge Leonardo Donà, is about the life of one of his ancestors, Doge Leonardo.

In this book talk, author Gianmaria Donà dalle Rose introduced the English edition of his latest book - Seven Days in Venice - which guides readers through Venice while regaling them with impressions and thoughts, titbits, and anecdotes. Not a guide, not an essay, but a flânerie, this book is a short, meandering journey of seven days through the typical wine bars and small squares of Venice on the trail of personal memories that intertwine with those of illustrious foreigners who visited and lived in the city.

The red carpet has become the world’s most mediatised stage set. Walking it is a right of passage that symbolises the ultimate consecration or confirmation of artistic achievement. Maria Grazia Rosin's Red Carpet installation during The Venice Glass Week at Palazzo Bragadin was organised by Atelier Visconti, Paris and  becomes the main event within an event: glass discs are aligned to form a hypothetical pathway that morphs into a ceremonial red catwalk. The work reflects on the celebration of image and spectacle in contemporary society.

Allegra Hicks - Inside Outside II

 

The monumental 20m Venice - glass-bead textile piece - echoes Allegra Hick’s signature use of embroidery, propelling the artist into the world of glassmaking. The piece reflects this transient sense of beginning; the ephemeral space between the outside of the body and the inside, between the female and male–in brief–the flux of life.  Three painted beaded canvases attempt to decipher this fluidity of life. Like in the body, where veins and capillaries allow the blood to flow, so horizontally embroidered Murano canna beads - present in only three sizes and three shades of blue - create a strong energetic vibration, taking us on a journey through an imaginary corridor from each side towards the centre, the vulva: l’Origine du Monde.

Alice Diaz de Santillana

 

An inspiring stroll through the Forum, during Alice Diaz de Santillana's stay in Rome, generated silhouettes or shadows of broken or weathered columns, fragments of feeling and allegory. Keta and Stili are glass stools that trace stone drums depriving them of all gravity, but capturing the continuum of the sign and the spatial significance. The detail of the proportions tapered upwards in a barely perceptible way, contains the code of interpretation and brings to mind the capital, whether Doric, Ionic or papyrus-shaped, alluding to a minimal idea of a plinth hoisted high on the shaft. The hyaline transparency does the rest, a convector of a lost language, imbued with a suggestion without chronologies or barriers.  The exhibition was organized by Elisabeth Royer S.R.L. - contact@royer.paris.

For the Nature and its Image exhibition during The Venice Glass Week at Caterina Tognon Arte Contemporanea, Venezia - which remains open until - November 27 -  Toots Zynsky presents a body of works that she explores, through the chromatic element, the complex relationship between man and the environment. Using a pioneering technique of glass processing, so-called a filet-de-verre, Zynsky models sinuous shapes, rich in folds and curves, which overwhelm the rigidity of the material and set the colors in motion, with a kinetic and illusionistic effect present only in nature.

 

 

Throughout her career, Toots Zynsky - Boston -1951 - lives and works in Providence, RI, USA - has always looked to nature as a primary source of inspiration. Her works, statements of color, transcend any category and inhabit a region of their own, intertwining the traditions of painting, sculpture and decorative arts.

At  Beatrice Burati Anderson - Art Space and Gallery - Venice - Calle de la Madonna - Campo San Polo 1976 - the exhibition - Delicate Questions - an installation in progress.  The group show features works by Judi Harvest - Tristano di Robilant - Maria Grazia Rosin and Marta Sforni. The  show's title, Delicate Questions, refers to the multitude of questions that human beings constantly pose about the nature of every aspect of both personal and collective existence.  Significantly, the artists have been asked to use glass to propose their own interpretation of a question mark.  All the works are specifically created for the occasion and originate from an inner topic. The collective installation presented, wants to reflect and make us reflect about the nature of questioning, recognizing how a question is always mirroring the deepest nature of the one who poses it. Indeed, as we share our personal fundamental questions, we can deeply recognize ourselves, and finally recognize every being as not separated from us. The exhibition will welcome the contributions of more artists and more question marks, while traveling to Rome and other cities. It will also be a way to support the activity of our Murano’s glass masters in this particularly delicate moment, inviting artists to work with them, to discover the magic of glass, even those who have never worked with glass before.
