London Now: Maison Assouline – Swan’s Bar Piccadilly

London Now: Maison Assouline – Swan’s Bar - Piccadilly

“We love and believe in books more than everything else, but we also want to extend our vision to create all that can be expected in a chic and personalized library, from beautiful books and special editions to luxury gift items, unique library accessories, and now a complete turnkey collection of stylish furniture.”
Prosper and Martine Assouline

On Piccadilly, in the former bank building designed in 1922 by Sir Edwin Lutyens, next to Fortnum and Mason and in front of the Royal Academy is the new Maison Assouline flagship store and Swan’s Bar. Inside the original paneling and plaster-work have been preserved in the elegant square space in which the chicest luxury coffee table and lifestyle books, candles, stationery, bespoke bindery, furnishings for your library with one-of-a-kind objects are elegantly displayed.

The Swan’s Bar
I imagine the Swan’s Bar appropriately takes its name from Truman Capote’s “Swans”, his nickname for his inner circle of lady friends which included: Babe Paley, Lee Radziwill, C. Z. Guest, Gloria Guinness, and Marella Agnelli. There surrounded by books you can enjoy breakfast, lunch, tea and an early dinner away from the hub of Piccadilly in luxury and tranquility.

The British monarchy’s rich and storied heritage has been preserved for centuries, and The Queen’s People, presents a magnificent collection of photography that brings The Queen and important members of Her Majesty’s court to life as rarely seen before.
